JOB SUMMARY:

The Brea Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)6, nonprofit corporation representing the interests of the business community in Brea. With more than a century of proven leadership, the Brea Chamber of Commerce empowers each business in their region to reach its full potential, cultivate an environment where businesses can thrive and connect businesses as a community. The Brea Chamber of Commerce exists to be the Catalyst for business growth. They ensure common-sense decisions are made for growth and expansion in Brea. The Brea Chamber of Commerce is the Convener of leaders and influencers to get things done. They bring in local businesses and policymakers to discuss issues in order to make better decisions for all of Brea. The Brea Chamber of Commerce is the Champion for a thriving community. They ensure residents and businesses are educated and well-informed for a sustainable Brea.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the timely sign-on to letters of support or opposition.

-Ensure alignment with legislative Platform

-Keep informed through various relevant partners Communication

  • Drive the timely and compelling issuance of Action Alerts to Chamber members

-Ensure support of CEO

  • Facilitate timely and robust Government Affairs Committee Meetings

-Establish regular meeting schedule

-Create timely and relevant agenda

-Provide staff, clerical and administrative support to the Committee

-Adequately prep the CEO for committee meetings

  • Research, design and distribute a compelling edition of Advocacy Update to be released on the 4th Thursday of every month

-Collect relevant topics for the newsletter

-Create a visually compelling and content relevant, timely e-newsletter that

encapsulates the most relevant public policy updates that impact our

member

  • Plan and execute engaging law-maker events and meetings, providing high-level staffing for the Chamber CEO

-Establish target list of law-makers for future events

-Secure potential dates from staff/CEO

-Coordinate with law-maker reps to establish a date

-Secure a location and work with event staff on logistics

-Ensure timely and relevant notification, promotion, and

registration for events

-Ensure adequate documentation of meeting outcomes/result.

  • Research and publish relevant and compelling public policy articles on policy topics of import to Brea Chamber’s business community

-Establish a topic at least once every two months that is driven by

member policy priorities, the editorial calendar, and the

legislative platform

-Maintain a focus on current and relevant public policy

-Utilize respected resources for article content, and site sources

at end of article

-Ensure article approval by CEO, publishing on website, and

distribution on social me

  • Provide a professional and well-informed voice for the business Community at City Council and Planning Commission meetings.

-Provide public comment for policy issues that impact Chamber members and

that align with the Legislative Platform and are approved by the CEO.

-Coordinate public comment from members and Emerging Leaders on relevant issues such as housing and development

-Take good notes and report out on council meetings attended in the Advocacy -Update e-newsletter

  • Integrate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team that shares administrative duties of answering phones, data management, correspondence, customer service, event staffing, etc.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Canva preferred

  • Experience with Constant Contact ideal

  • Teams, One-Drive, as well as learning new technologies and software preferred

  • Basic knowledge of graphic design, website functions preferred.

  • Type 40 WPM preferred

  • Quick learner, good judgement and character, self-starter, proactive, attention to detail, good reading and listening comprehension preferred

SKILLS DEVELOPED OVER WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Plan and execute engaging law-maker events and meetings, providing high-level staffing for the Chamber CEO
