The City of Laguna Beach is looking for a dynamic and energetic professional to fill our position of Accounting Supervisor!
What you’ll do: This position will be responsible for overseeing and managing all accounting activities for the City, ensuring accurate data entry and adherence to accounting controls. They serve as the main source of technical accounting knowledge, supervise various accounting operations, and coordinate annual audits and compliance reporting. Additionally, they maintain internal control procedures, liaise with other City departments, and stay current with changes in the accounting field and relevant software.

Incumbents receive an additional 5% in pay in exchange for these classifications being overtime exempt.
This position works on-site and is a 9/80 work schedule. The work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on alternating Fridays. City Hall is closed on alternating Fridays.

The selection process may be modified based on the needs of the City.
Pre-employment Process: The selected candidate must successfully pass the pre-placement process, which includes a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice. Education and employment verification and reference check(s) will also be conducted.

Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
Education: Equivalent to an associate’s degree with major coursework in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree is
highly desirable.
Experience: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience involving governmental accounting, including some supervisory experience. The ideal candidate possesses at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of some field duties, which may require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid California Driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record are required.
