Job Summary:

Community Outreach Alliance (COA) is a non-profit organization in San Clemente that provides healthy opportunities and resources for the youth and community. They offer free food distributions, music outreach for youth and young adults, and partner with community resources to support youth, families, military personnel, and seniors in staying healthy and active. The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching, drafting, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding for the organization's programs and initiatives. This role is crucial in helping COA achieve its mission and expand its impact. The Grant Writer will work closely with the program and finance teams to ensure all proposals align with COA's strategic goals and meet the requirements of potential funders.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Research and identify potential funding opportunities, including grants from government agencies, foundations, and corporate sponsors.

  • Develop and write compelling grant proposals and funding applications, ensuring they are tailored to the specific guidelines and requirements of each funder.

  • Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary information and data for proposal development, including program descriptions, budgets, and evaluation plans.

  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and ensure timely submission of all proposals.

  • Monitor and report on the status of submitted proposals, including follow-up with funders as needed.

  • Manage the post-award process, including preparing required reports and ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.

  • Build and maintain relationships with current and potential funders to support ongoing and future funding efforts.

  • Keep abreast of trends in philanthropy and funding opportunities relevant to our mission and programs.

  • Input received grants into a shared Google Sheets document.


Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Willingness to take courses, learn, and be trained in Grant Writing.

  • Excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • High level of integrity and commitment to the mission of our organization.

  • Attend Board meetings via Zoom every 3rd Tuesday and interact with leadership.

Work Experience Skills Developed:

  • Advanced research and analytical skills to identify and evaluate potential funding sources.

  • Strong writing and editing abilities, with the capacity to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

  • Project management skills to handle multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in budget development and financial reporting

  • Enhanced communication and collaboration skills through interaction with diverse teams and stakeholders

  • Increased knowledge of the nonprofit sector, including funding landscapes and donor relations

  • Expertise in grant management and compliance with funding regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Proficiency with grant research databases and online submission portals.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit financial management and budget development.
