Essential Qualifications and Abilities
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Job Coach will be providing assistance and training to consumers with disabilities at their place of employment and who have been referred to ESC by the State of California Department of Rehabilitation. An ESC Job Coach provides training and assistance to consumers with disabilities to ensure that they are able to reach a successful employment retention outcome on their job. Oversees consumer’s work performance in an individual placement and provides hands on assistance where necessary.
Essential job duties:
The Job Coach will be responsible for helping the individual learn the following
The expectations of the employer
The tasks of the job
How to do the job at the required speed
How to complete the tasks of the job safely and independently
The rules of the workplace
Appropriate social skills
Proper grooming and hygiene
Appropriate behavior in the workplace
Communication skills and integrating into the employment setting
How to make choices and be a self-advocate
Enforces compliance with safety rules and regulations
Maintains communication between Consumer, Job Developer and Executive Director
Provides daily/weekly/monthly progress reports on each consumer
Redirects and intervenes with consumers in order to keep individual focused on performing on task behaviors
Outreach
Maintains professional relationships with employers, and onsite staff at consumer places of employment
Nurtures productive communicative relationships with Department of Rehabilitation Counselors
Participates in training that will update and grow skills in the field
Documentation
Documentation: Documentation of services is critical to ESC Inc. All staff is required to submit documentation of the services they have provided to consumers. Staff will be evaluated for completeness and accuracy of their documentation as required by funding
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required
1 year of relevant experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
Database software
Spreadsheet software
Word Processing software
Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities. ADA Knowledge desirable
Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance
Required to travel to various locations in the community
Shift flexibility and overtime when needed.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Non-profit experience preferred.
Punctual and dependable attendance.
Free from alcohol and drug abuse.
Understands the basic philosophy of ESC and participates fully in carrying out its mission.

Essential Qualifications and Abilities:
Personal Assistance: Ability to assist consumer in activities as related to their job.
Lifting / Physical Demands: Ability to lift a minimum of twenty (20) or more pounds frequently. The Job Coach is required to maintain a professional, motivating, and supportive demeanor. The Job Coach is required to maintain the decorum of a qualified ESC Inc. representative.
Challenging Behaviors: Ability / willingness to support individuals with challenging behaviors. Each consumer of ESC Inc. has a disability, which may require the Job Coach to demonstrate the following abilities, but not limited to: patience, understanding of various disabilities, and knowledge of how to create a positive outlook when the consumer may not have the ability to do so themselves.
Ability to read and interpret documents: Ability to write specific reports and correspondence, to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations, to solve complex problems, and to interpret written and verbal instructions is required.
Ability to provide and/or pass: Criminal record clearance, current T.B. clearance, CPR/First Aid certification, copy of valid, unrestricted California’s driver license, and proof of valid/current liability insurance.
