UCI: Temporary Groundskeeper

Position Summary:

UCI's Temporary Employment Services (TES) is continuously seeking applicants with a background in Grounds Keeping and Landscaping to assist in filling the UCI's temporary staffing needs. Temp assignments can range from a couple days to numerous months at a time.

Groundskeepers perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled grounds maintenance and gardening tasks; and perform other related duties as required.

Incumbents typically work as a part of a regular crew involved in the care and maintenance of plants, shrubs, trees, hedges, flowers, lawns and bard surfaced areas on the campus grounds; mow lawns and fields; edge around walks, flower beds, walls and similar areas; trim and prune shrubs, hedges and trees; prepare and fertilize soil for planting; spray landscaped areas with insecticides and herbicides; hoe weeds and rake lawns; water various ground areas by hand or by operating the sprinkler system; perform minor maintenance on hard surfaced areas such as walks and roadways; operate trucks, power mowers, power edgers, and a variety of attachments and grounds equipment or tools; service and make minor repairs or adjustments to equipment; may lay out and maintain athletic fields; and may use carpentry tools in simple construction of facilities such as wooden retaining walls.


Compensation Range:

Hourly: $20.81


Required:

  • At least 6 months of experience working as a groundskeeper

  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction

  • Knowledge and skill to operate commonly used grounds equipment and tools

Preferred:

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license

  • Ability to identify undesirable plant material

  • Knowledge and ability to maintain irrigation systems

TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT

This is a temporary employment recruitment reporting to the UCI Temporary Employment Services (TES) Department. Interviewing and hiring is based on internal hiring needs and how well the candidate's experience matches the assignment requirements. Certain temporary assignments may require clearance of health physical or require a valid California Driver’s License for driving university vehicles.

The majority of our temporary positions are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., however, we also have occasional part-time, weekend and evening hours available. Comprehensive benefits options are also available for temporary employees, including paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
