Current positions are working in the TK classroom
(full-time, 40 hours per week/10-month position)
7:30 am – 4:00 pm
SALARY RANGE: $17.47/hour to $21.25/hour in five annual steps
FINAL FILING DATE: April 16, 2023
THE POSITION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provides assistance in facilitating, managing, and providing activities to students from TK to 8th grade, before and after school.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. At least two years of study (48 units with at least 6 college semester units in early childhood education or closely-related subjects).
OR
2. Have at least 6 college semester units in early childhood education or closely-related subjects and pass a rigorous local exam measuring knowledge of and ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and math and demonstrate experience in working with children in an organized setting or learning situation.
AND
3. Have 6 months of demonstrated experience working with school-age children.
THE EXAMINATION: Candidates are required to pass the Basic Skills Test for Instructional Assistants which covers English usage and proficiency, simple arithmetic through elementary algebra, reading comprehension, and the ability to assist in instruction. Candidates may also be tested on the following: the ability to deal effectively with special education students, to understand problems and solve them; to follow written and oral directions; flexibility, patience, judgment, and sensitivity.
If you have at least 48 units or credit hours of college coursework you are eligible to waive the written examination by attaching unofficial transcripts or AA Degree or higher to your application. Applicants with a high school diploma or GED without 48 units or credit hours of college coursework will be required to pass a proficiency test as legislated by the State of California. Must pass an oral examination with a score of 70% or higher.
