Westminster School District: Translator/Interpreter - Vietnamese

RATE OF PAY: $3,770/month to $4,585/month, in five annual steps


HOURS: 40 hours per week – 12 months per year

8:00 am to 5:00 pm (M-F)


JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of an assigned supervisor, provides major oral and written translations from English to Vietnamese and/or from Vietnamese to English; assists in screening the oral and written language skills of students and applicants for bilingual/bi-literate positions. Work hours are generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm daily; however, it is the nature of this position to have flexible hours. There are home visits, night meetings and mileage to be considered.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Any combination equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree and at least two years of experience in translating and interpreting school-related materials. A valid California Driver's License and A reliable vehicle available for personal use in the performance of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this classification.


THE EXAMINATION:

  • Candidates may be examined for practical knowledge of record-keeping, oral and written communication skills, in both English and Vietnamese, including the ability to read, interpret and translate, prepare materials in an accurate and precise form, and modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
