About the Opportunity: The City of Laguna Beach is offering an excellent opportunity for a motivated, eager-to-learn individual to join its Engineering Team as an intern. This role provides hands-on exposure to civil engineering, infrastructure planning, and public sector operations. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to a range of meaningful projects that benefit the city and community.

City of Laguna Beach – Public Works & Utilities Department

Location: Laguna Beach, CA Division: Engineering | Municipal Government


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist engineering staff with project coordination and support

  • Conduct basic research, data review, and field visits

  • Draft technical documents using Microsoft Office

  • Support AutoCAD drafting, GIS mapping, and surveying (as applicable)

  • Participate in quality control, permitting research, and municipal compliance


Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and show initiative

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, and surveying is desirable

  • Experience in municipal government or construction is a plus


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management

  • Valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record

  • Availability to work approximately 24 hours per week, year-round (schedule is flexible based on department needs)
