Position Overview: The City of Laguna Beach is currently seeking a qualified candidate for a Building Inspector or Senior Building Inspector role. Schedule: Full-Time | Management

Salary Range: $151,704 – $232,812 Annually (Depending on Qualifications and Experience)

Position Overview: The City of Laguna Beach is seeking a skilled and strategic financial leader to serve as the next Director of Finance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead the City's financial operations, support long-term fiscal health, and modernize internal systems. The Director will oversee a $2.5 million departmental budget, manage the City’s $145 million total budget, and lead a team of 10 finance staff.

Reporting directly to the City Manager, this role includes responsibility for budget preparation, audits, revenue collection, payroll, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking leader with deep expertise in government finance and a strong commitment to operational excellence and public service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and management of the City's operating and capital budgets

  • Lead financial reporting, audits, and revenue collection

  • Modernize systems and implement new financial technologies

  • Evaluate and improve financial procedures and internal controls

  • Present financial reports and forecasts to City Council and stakeholders

  • Supervise, mentor, and support finance team staff

  • Ensure compliance with California public finance laws and regulations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred)

  • At least six years of progressively responsible experience in local California government

  • Expertise in municipal budgeting, accounting, and financial management

  • Familiarity with CalPERS, ERP systems, and public sector compliance standards

  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
