Job Summary:
The CalTrans Team Corpsmember performs specialized litter abatement and roadside maintenance along active state highways and freeways in support of OCCC’s partnership with Caltrans and the Clean California Initiative.
Essential Job Duties:
Remove litter, debris, and illegal dumping from highway rights-of-way, medians, and shoulders
Perform basic vegetation and roadside maintenance while maintaining constant traffic awareness
Assist with specialized cleanups (including encampment abatement) following strict safety protocols
Strictly follow enhanced PPE, high-visibility, and highway safety requirements
Work reliability as part of a crew and report hazards or issues promptly
Participate in required training and educational activities
Requirements/Qualifications:
Must be 18 – 24 years old
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to perform strenuous outdoor physical labor in all weather conditions near active freeways
Ability to regularly lift 25-50 lbs. and work on uneven terrain for extended periods
Strong reliability, teamwork, and commitment to safety
Work Experience Skills Developed:
Remove litter, debris, and illegal dumping from highway
Basic vegetation and roadside maintenance
Specialized cleanups (including encampment abatement) following strict safety protocols
PPE, high-visibility, and highway safety requirements
Completion of specialized safety training
Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 6:30 am – 3:00 pm
