Job Summary:

The Orange County Conservation Corps serves young, at-risk adults through employment, training and educational programs that build self-sufficiency and benefit the community through conservation-driven projects. The OCCC’s approach to employability teaches teamwork and cooperation by utilizing work projects that are beneficial to the community and the environment.


Essential Job Duties:

Conservation Projects

  • Tree planting and plant installation

  • Erosion control, trail improvements, and habitat restoration

  • Fire fuel reduction

  • Litter abatement

  • Homeless camp removal

  • Minor construction

Maintenance

  • Renovation of public access structures and streets

  • Painting and repairs

  • Rebuilding public lands equipment and fencing

  • Landscape improvements and restoration

Recycling

  • Develop recycling awareness and learn recycling concepts

  • Collect and sort recyclable commodities (e-Waste, waste tires, beverage containers, used oil)

  • Public outreach at community events and participation in outreach programs

Emergency Response

  • Assist on clean-up projects resulting from fires, floods, earthquakes, and oil spills

Adhere to safety and professional work practices


Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift between 25-50 lbs.

  • Participation in Corps functions and workshops

  • Non-high school grads must enroll into OCCC/JMSC High School Diploma Program

  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Must be willing to perform physical labor in a team setting

  • Emergency Response Projects

  • Adhere to safety and professional work practices


Hours of Operation:

Monday – Thursday: 6:45am – 2:45 pm


Uniform:

OCCC uniform includes Corps shirt, pants, safety vest, sweater, helmet, and other necessary PPE
